Gandhi Institute Chooses Hydroponics

The M. K. Gandhi Institute of Nonviolence announced in February 2014 that they were planning to participate in an aquaponics program to help students from the aquaponics program at the School of Industry transition into the community. Fish would have been raised in tanks on MKGI property, and eventually sold to restaurants.

A few ARAUNY board members decided to communicate with MKGI in September to point out that killing fish, in our opinion, is not compatible with Gandhi’s values or the Institute’s mission. Kit Miller, the Director of MKGI, has since agreed and they plan to support a hydroponics program instead. ARAUNY is grateful that the directors of MKGI are open to the change of heart they ask of others in the face of social injustice.
