Sexual Politics of Meat Author, Carol Adams, to visit RIT

carol j adamsCarol Adams, nationally-known author of the ground-breaking feminist-vegan work, The Sexual Politics of Meat and other books, will visit RIT on Thursday, February 11, 2010. At 4:00 p.m., Adams will give a lecture and slide presentation in the Faculty Commons of the College of Liberal Arts, Bldg. 6. The talk is Free and open to the public. Following the presentation, Carol Adams’ books will be available for purchase and signing.

As an undergraduate at the University of Rochester in the early 1970s, Adams worked to bring women’s studies courses to campus. She actively protested the Vietnam War, and received a Masters of divinity from Yale University. For many years, she served as Executive Director of the Chautauqua County Rural Ministry, Inc., in Dunkirk NY, an advocacy and service not-for-profit agency addressing issues of poverty, racism, and sexism. Today, she makes her home in the area of Dallas, Texas.

In addition to her pioneering work, The Sexual Politics of Meat (which this year is being re-issued in a 20th anniversary edition), Adams is author of many other books, including: The Pornography of Meat, How to Eat Like a Vegetarian, and Living Among Meat Eaters. She is working on a book about Jane Austen.
