Rib Fest Protests 5/26 & 5/29

The logo for the event, a promotion of the myth that animals, cool ones anyway, enjoy being killed.

Join us in protesting Rochester’s worst festival, the four-day Roc City Rib Fest, a celebration wholly dedicated to the consumption of the bodies of innocent victims of horrific violence.

We’ll be at Barnard Fireman’s Field, 360 Maiden Lane, Greece NY from 5/26 4-6 pm for the opening and 5/29 12-3 pm.  There is a potluck vegan picnic after the second protest.

Come out and show attendees that not everyone finds violence to other animals acceptable.

The usual details:

  • Please do not shout or react to anyone shouting at us.  Our silence is powerful dissent.
  • Please wear no animal products (leather, wool, down, silk, fur) – festival attendees do notice and comment.
  • For their safety and comfort, please do not bring animals.
  • Stand on public sidewalk only, and do not block anyone: keep it legal.
  • We welcome those who approach us with questions or for dialogue.  Always be polite.  If someone wants to talk to you but you’re not comfortable with that, you can give them a leaflet and/or refer them to the leader.

Signs

ARRoc provides signs.  If you wish to make your own sign, please be sure its message meets ARRoc’s Core Values.  Graphic images, which cause people to look away, may not be as effective as a clear, short, simple, written message, which people do read.

Leafletting

Leafletting is great advocacy.  It is best done “upstream” from the protest, before attendees notice us.  ARRoc can provide materials.

Weather

Rain or shine.  Dress for the weather.  Umbrellas are fine.  Check our web site in case of dangerous weather.

Bathrooms

No bathrooms, so come prepared!

What else can you do?

Write a Letter to the Editor of a newspaper and the sponsor, 96.5 WCMF.  Point out to your friends the irony of celebrating violence while wishing for world peace.
